Offer
To
Military
Cooks
and
All
Military
Families
That
Love
Ice
Cream
As
Much
As
This
Former
Navy
Cook
Did
you
know
that
Ventura
County
(
The
City
of
Port
Hueneme
in
particular)
is
not
only
the
Home
of
the
Quonsett
Hut,
but
the
Home
of
the
Original
Cookie
Cone.
That's
right!
The
Quonsett
Hut
was
first
invented
on
the
SeaBee
Base
in
Port
Hueneme,
California.
And
Port
Hueneme
is
the
Home
of
the
Original
Cookie
Ice
Cream
Cone;
invented
by
a
SeaBee
Cook.
Everyone
I'm
sure
has
heard
the
story
of
how
the
ice
cream
cone
got
it's
start
back
at
the
1904
World's
Fair
when
a
pastry
vendor
came
to
the
rescue
of
a
ice
cream
vendor
who
ran
out
of
dishes
to
serve
his
ice
cold
treat
in.
Well,
the
debate
of
who
invented
the
ice
cream
cone
is
still
a
worldwide
mystery.
Whoever
invented
the
ice
cream
cone
did
a
wonderful
service
to
dessert
as
we
know
it
today.
But
it
wasn't
very
long
after
the
invention
of
the
ice
cream
cone
did
the
fresh
handmade
method
disappear,
being
replace
by
the
boxed
wafer
cone
and
sugar
cone.

That's
right,
the
handmade
ice
cream
cone
made
fresh
for
the
customer,
vanished
for
the
sake
of
convenience,
as
manufacturers
quickly
jumped
on
the
demand
for
this
crispy
treat
to
serve
with
ice
cream.
But
what
most
people
don't
know,
is,
who
was
responsible
for
the
come
back
of
the
handmade
waffle
cone
you
see
today
being
served
in
ice
cream
parlors
the
world
over.
It
surely
wasn't
the
manufacturers
that
make
the
waffle
cone
appliances
you
see
in
stores
everywhere.
In
fact
he
wasn't
even
and
American.
He's
name
was
Jorn
Caroe
from
Denmark
and
he
set
up
shop
in
a
small
Danish
Tourist
Town
just
north
of
Santa
Barbara,
California.
He
named
his
store
The
Great
Danish
Cone
Company
and
it
is
still
there
today
although
the
name
has
changes.
I
don't
believe
the
new
owners
realize
the
history
behind
their
little
corner
of
the
world.
In
the
window
of
the
shop
you'll
see
the
cone
machine
he
used
to
start
the
waffle
cone
craze
that
is
now
worldwide.
He
began
here
in
the
United
States
back
in
the
early
1980s
with
the
same
cone
maker
in
the
window,
that
still
puts
on
a
show
for
the
crowds
passing
by
the
shop
window.
One
of
those
people
was
Eric
Nielsen,
our
Former
Navy
Cook.
Always
on
the
lookout
for
a
good
idea
for
a
business.
He
decided
to
purchase
one
of
Jorn's
Cone
Machines
and
open
an
ice
cream
parlor
of
his
own.
He
participated
in
a
couple
of
local
festivals
(Ventura's
Fiesta-Del-Sol
and
Oxnard's
First
Strawberry
Festival)
where
he
found
just
how
popular
the
fresh
waffle
cones
were.
Wanting
to
have
something
to
call
his
own
that
was
different
than
anything
out
there
at
the
time,
he
came
up
this
the
concept
of
matching
a
person's
favorite
ice
cream
flavor
to
a
ice
cream
cone
that
was
flavored
like
a
cookie.
And
the
idea
was
born.
Months
went
into
the
creation
of
the
cone
recipes
and
Giggles'
Ice
Cream
Parlor
in
Port
Hueneme
was
opened.
Serving
the
first
flavored
ice
cream
cones
the
world
has
ever
seen.
As
the
years
have
passed,
Giggles'
customers
have
mentioned
how
fantastic
their
experience
was
enjoying
these
cones.
And
how
they
wished
they
too
could
bring
their
children
and
grandchildren
in
for
a
cone.
That's
when
it
dawned
on
this
Former
Navy
Cook
to
recreate
those
recipes
and
offer
them
to
everyone
to
make
at
home.
Now,
there
are
smiling
bellies
the
world
over.
Not
to
mention
all
across
America.
There
are
even
those
who
are
buying
the
book
to
use
the
recipes
with
their
Italian
Pizzelle
Makers
and
Northern
European
Krumkake
Makers.
As
well
as
the
recipes
being
used
to
serve
as
treats
in
restaurants.
This
Navy
Cook
turned
entrepreneur,
won't
stop
until
he
has
his
delicious
cookie
cones
as
a
regular
menu
item
in
ice
cream
parlors
around
the
world.
And
realizing
that
the
costs
for
families
to
take
everyone
out
for
ice
cream
is
getting
more
expensive
all
the
time.
The
hope
is
to
offer
a
very
special
deal
for
military
families
servicing
in
today's
military.
As
of
now,
a
quality
cone
maker
is
very
expensive
at
wholesale,
leaving
very
little
room
to
drop
the
cost.
Be
patient.
As
I
am
still
searching.
For
now...
my
book
is
for
sale
with
no
shipping
costs
to
you.
My
recommendation
for
a
quality
waffle
cone
maker
is
to
visit
Target
or
William
Sonoma
for
a
quality
appliance.
Or
you
can
go
to
E-Bay
and
type
in:
"Waffle
Cone
Maker"
to
be
taken
to
a
site
for
new
and
used
commercial
and
non-commercial
waffle
cone
makers.
